Fish the Beaverhead, Big Hole, Jefferson, Madison, Ruby, and Yellowstone.
Montana Bucks & Ducks offers guided fly fishing trips run by Kara Schuett, a licensed Montana outfitter, MOGA's Fly Fishing Guide of the Year, and one of only a handful of female fishing guides in this part of Montana. Whether you're brand new to fly fishing or have hundreds of days on the water, each trip is tailored to your experience level, comfort, and goals for the day.
We also offer group floats with multiple boats and experienced guides for larger parties.

Kara grew up in the mountains of Idaho, where she learned early how to hunt, fish, and feel at home outdoors. After moving to Dillon, Montana in 2012, she followed her passion for fishing and built a career as a professional guide and outfitter. Today, she loves sharing her knowledge with both beginner and seasoned anglers, helping people connect with the water and the experience as much as the catch.
In addition to guiding, Kara is the founder of Yellow Sally, a women's and girls' fly fishing apparel brand designed to make the sport more accessible and inclusive. When fall rolls around, she transitions into guiding hunts and hosting women's hunting retreats, bringing the same hands‑on, welcoming approach to the field.
Kara and her husband are raising their eight‑year‑old son, Ridge, on the same values she grew up with: hard work, respect for wildlife, and care for the land. In the off‑season, she enjoys traveling to fish new waters, explore new places, and spend time helping out on the family ranch.
Food is provided on all guided trips, and every detail from shuttles to flies is handled so you can relax, learn, and focus on the fish and the river.

On the Big Hole and Beaverhead, Kara operates as a booking agent under long‑standing permit arrangements with trusted outfitters. On the Madison, Jefferson, Yellowstone, and Ruby, she operates directly under her own Montana outfitter license. In all cases, your trip is guided by Kara or a guide she trusts, on water where she knows the hatches, the flows, and the fish.

Float trips are the most comfortable way to cover water and see a lot of river in a single day. Kara will position the boat so you can focus on casting, mending, and enjoying the scenery while drifting through prime trout water.
You'll fish from a stable drift boat (or a raft when water levels call for it), with room for two anglers per boat. All necessary fishing gear is provided if you need it, including rods, reels, and flies, along with lunch and non‑alcoholic beverages.
Float trips are ideal for first‑timers, couples, and anyone who wants a full day on the river without worrying about wading or slick rocks. If you're newer to fly fishing, Kara will spend extra time on the basics: casting, line control, and reading water. If you're more experienced, she'll help you dial in presentation and fly selection for the conditions that day.
Walk‑wade trips are for anglers who want to slow down and pick apart specific stretches of river or smaller streams on foot. You'll walk banks, hop between runs and pockets, and learn how trout hold in different types of water.
These trips are a great fit if you enjoy moving at your own pace, want to focus on particular skills (like dry‑fly presentations or nymphing), or prefer being in the water rather than in a boat. As with float trips, all necessary gear can be provided, and lunch is included.
Walk‑wade days can be tailored to beginners who want extra instruction or to experienced anglers looking for more technical, up‑close fishing. Kara will be right there with you, from tying on the first fly to landing the last fish of the day.

NOT FISHING?
If someone in your group doesn't want to fish but would love to see the rivers and country, our Scenic River Floats are a relaxed, non‑fishing way to enjoy the water, wildlife, and views. These trips have their own dedicated page with full details.
If you're curious about which river, what time of year, or which type of trip is best for you, the easiest next step is to reach out. Kara will ask a few questions about your experience level, who's coming, and what kind of day you're hoping for, then recommend a plan.
